Indiana Filmmakers Network Hosting 1893 Chicago’s Columbian Exposition at Tippecanoe Arts Federation
The 1893 Chicago’s Columbian Exposition media project explores the World’s Fair through a variety of formats including the written word on social media and in paperback, images from antiquity and modern photography as well as video taken by Media Engineer Michael Finney, and a documentary film that is on Amazon Prime. The Indiana Filmmakers Network is convening on November 19th at 6:30pm EST to discuss the new documentary and project at-large.
“When Michael first introduced himself and proposed his project to the Indiana Filmmakers Network, we jumped at the chance to get involved and help however we might be able to. Recently, the Indiana Filmmakers Network was awarded a much appreciated capital grant by North Central Health Services, for the purchase and installation of a new film/media projection system to be featured at the Tippecanoe Arts Federation, in downtown Lafayette, Indiana.”, said Nathan Bechtold, President of the Indiana Filmmakers Network. “Unfortunately, due to this past year, the IFN hasn’t had the opportunity to have our normal free in-person monthly educational and networking meetings across Indiana, or introduce the public to our new projector. So we are very excited that Michael Finney’s documentary: 1893 Chicago’s Columbian Exposition, will be our first official showcased film event, we look forward to working with Michael into the future and wish him well. “
This project started when the author acquired a book of official photographs published in 1893 to document the first Chicago World’s Fair from a client that is an antiquarian book dealer. After creating a thread of images and commentary on Twitter, Finney decided to gather up the entries and attempt to craft a narrative from the individual posts. “Delving into this history has been a really organic process that I just sort of fell backwards into during 2018. It’s really amazing to bring the project into a live event.”
