🎥 🎞 Streamanity : Monetizing Video for Bitcoin

Earlier this year Amazon Prime Video announced that they were changing their policy regarding unsolicited licensing submissions for non-fiction and short form content. There is now room for an indie film and streaming video provider that gives directors and producers a platform to distribute their work and get paid.

Streamanity meets all these requirements and adds an extra bonus, you get paid in bitcoin. While major streaming platforms like Hulu, HBO, Disney, YouTube and others restrict independent filmmakers from distributing and monetizing, Streamanity is giving them channels to build an audience.

The platform functions similarly to any other video streaming outlet but allows content creators to decide whether to charge for their videos as well as select how much they want to charge. Additionally, the price can be adjusted over time. Another incredible feature is the ability to split payments to a collection of recipients.

It’s probably the easiest platform for videographers to monetize videos. However, because it is facilitated by a cryptocurrency, it creates a hurdle for uninitiated potential viewers to get over. It would be interesting if payment was available in numerous currencies with payout options for creators. As you can see, the backend of the site for video creators is fairly lightweight. The platform is not overladen with features.

In 2020 while I was preparing to release the Chicago 1893 documentary film, I ran into issues with Amazon Prime’s file requirements, delaying its release on that platform. Later in the year as Exploring Our National Parks Volume 1 was about to be released, Amazon rejected 7 out of the 8 videos I intended to put on Prime to accompany the book. In both of these cases Streamanity was there to help me meet my deadlines and make these pieces of content available online.

It’s important to mention this site utilizes Bitcoin SV for payments, which has larger blocks than BTC enabling transaction fees to remain low and micropayment platforms to flourish.

Right now, this means you’ll need a Money Button or RelayX (maintained by the team responsible for Streamanity as well) BSV wallet to interact with creators on the platform. Luckily, they are free to try and there are even ways to earn the currency without using an exchange.

A few features I would like to see added are creator-generated playlists or video collections, the return of the profile cover photo, and lastly a notification system both for inbound engagement as well as to be informed about new video releases on Streamanity by creators you follow.

Thanks for reading!
